Great Pronunciation Site

http://www.digitaldialects.com/index.htm

About it:

A site that will help students improve their pronunciation skills and vocabulary while having fun.

Significance:

  • Great tools available for all ages.
  • Allows students to develop their pronunciation and to learn basic vocabulary.
  • Great for beginners where they can learn the alphabet by listening to the audio and match the sound with the script.
  • It's great fun because of the games available.
  • Allows students to work autonomously where they can receive input and produce output.
  • Allows rote learning which i sometimes believe is beneficial to certain types of students.
  • Also, gives space to an interactional approach, where the teacher can manipulate the games in a way of arranging groups of students to compete against each other.

Suggestions:

Inside Classrooms:

  • A facilitating tool which could be useful for  warm-ups  or oral dictations.
  • You could ask students to identify  certain objects that you would point to and  you could ask them later on to write the words as a kind of dictation
  • The games available could be used as group activities where students could get into teams and compete against each other to finish a certain task.

Outside Classrooms :

  • Great tool to use at home.
  • Students can practice, learn and develop  target language and have fun at the same time.
  • Parents of young learners could use to help review their kids vocabulary and pronunciation.
  • Great for beginners!!

Shortcomings:

  • Its a great tool for beginners only,  because the vocabulary available is quite simple.
  • I also think that it might be boring and worn out after the students have learned the vocabularies available.
  • Limited amount of material.
