Great Site for Oral Presentations!! (Pic. Lovers!!...This is what you need)!

Bubblr & Bookr

About it:
  • Both sites are similar in the sense that they provide photos from flicker.com.
  • Bubblr allows you to sort photos in a strip and add bubbles to them to type in notes or comments (that's why its called Bubblr).
  • Bookr is the same as Bubblr,  but this time its not a strip of photos it's a book that you create with pictures that you select to be in the pages of your book.
  • Very straight forward and quick way of creating a presentation to present orally in from of class.
  • What's great is that loads of photos are available, you just have to type in a word and photos will appear.
  • You can also publish your work and email it immediately.
 Significance:

  • When i first saw it, i thought that it would work best for presentations and projects.
  • Students don't need to spend hours working on posters, cutting and sticking pictures or even drawing.
  • It's a time saver tool!! Students can in class work on preparing oral presentation with background pics. presentation.
  • Allows students to be creative since they have the chance to make use of the photos.
  • Allows peer collaboration and group work.
  • Great for teachers!! Because they can use the photo strips to explain a science lesson for example, a lesson about cells. Teachers no more have to ask their students to look at  posters hung on the wall or to look into their textbooks. Many, many pictures about cells could be viewed by the students.
  • Improves students speaking, writing and pronunciation skills!
Suggestions:

In Classroom:

  • Great interactive tool, where students can work in groups or pairs to create a presentation, project, story, an advertisement or a comic strip.
  • Could be also used as a tool for explaining and demonstrating certain issues in any kind of lesson, whether it was science, Math, History or literature
  • According to the theme of the lesson, the teacher could assign the students to create a story, comic strip etc. by using the bubbles or if using Bookr it would be great for stories because of the available space at the bottom of the page to type in text.
Outside Classroom:
  • Great for homework assignments! Instead of asking students to write a paragraph about their hobbies or dream house etc. Students can actually use Bubblr and Bookr by selecting photos and inserting captions/text, an enjoyable writing assignment! Handing it in by email!
  • Encourages learner autonomy and creativity, because students can enjoy selecting photos that interests them  write up a story.

Shortcomings:
  • I'm not sure whether the photos are controlled in the sense that no offensive photos are accessible to students under 18.
  • I'm not quite sure if there isn't actually an option to view the photos in full screen, it is quite disappointing to have pictures shown in small size.
  • Tried typing in random words and not many pics. were eventually available, for example: Tom and Jerry?!! barely two or three pics.
  • I wish if it would allow audio to be added...its quite time consuming to add audio using other tools.
